How to make Feteer Meshaltet – Egyptian food

Feteer Meshaltet is delicious Egyptian food characterized by multiple layers of dough with loads of butter and ghee sandwiched between the dough. It is one of the most famous pastries in Egypt and the Middle East. The best thing about Feteer is that it requires simple ingredients. So, you can easily make Feteer Meshaltet at home. Read on!


  • Four cups of all-purpose flour
  • One or two cups of tap water
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • One cup of unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup of ghee or oil


  1. Combine the flour and salt
  2. Add one cup of water and knead the flour
  3. Set aside the dough for ten minutes
  4. Make six to eight balls
  5. Heat ghee or butter and pout it into a bowl
  6. Apply the warm butter to the dough balls
  7. Set aside for 15 to 20 minutes
  8. Preheat your oven to 550 degrees Fahrenheit
  9. Fold the dough and add the butter mixture in between it
  10. Set aside the ball and make the next one
  11. Place the ball on a 10-inch pie or baking dish
  12. Make sure it is side down
  13. Use butter to top the balls
  14. Place the balls in the oven for 10-15 minutes
  15. Once the Feteer starts to puff, turn it upside down
  16. Add a small amount of butter on top and cover for a few minutes
  17. The purpose is to avoid it from getting dry
  18. Serve your family or friends and enjoy
